Construction Debris in Sacramento: What We Take and What We Don’t
On a construction or renovation site, debris piles up fast: drywall scraps, old framing, packaging, and whatever came out of the room being rebuilt. Debris like that has its own disposal rules. Take Care Junk is a junk removal company, not a construction and demolition (C&D) hauler, so it helps to know before you call which parts of the pile our junk removal team can take.
We do not take mixed construction or demolition debris, drywall, or roof tear-off from a house, and we do not do job-site cleanup for contractors. What we do take is a single-material load, the household items a remodel turns up, and the contents of a house that needs to be cleared before work begins.
For mixed piles, the right fit is a licensed C&D hauler or a debris dumpster. We would rather tell you that up front than have you find out on pickup day. Our scope page, construction debris: what we take, has the full list.
For Homeowners and Remodelers: Where We Fit
Most of the remodel-related calls we get come from homeowners and property managers. The work usually falls before the project starts or after it ends, not in the middle of an active job site. For commercial properties, see our commercial junk removal services.
Clearing a house before a renovation
Before the first wall comes down, the room has to be empty. We haul furniture, appliances, rugs, boxes and household items out of the way so your contractor can start on a clear floor.
Old cabinets, fixtures and appliances
When a kitchen or bathroom is redone, the old cabinets, vanities, toilets, sinks, tubs and appliances need somewhere to go. Those are items we take. Set them aside from the mixed debris and we can load them in one visit.
Single-material loads
A load that is one material only is worth a call: metal, concrete, brick, clean wood, tile or hardwood flooring, in limited amounts. Once materials are mixed together in a pile, it becomes a job for a C&D hauler or a dumpster.
Clear communication from arrival to final sweep
We provide clear, no-nonsense communication. You’ll get a confirmation when we’re on our way, and we’ll tell you before we load anything if part of the pile is something we can’t take. No surprises.
What Counts as Construction Debris, and Which Parts We Haul
After a demolition or during a build, you’re left with a wide range of heavy, bulky, and awkward materials. Some of it we take and some of it we don’t. Here is how the common categories break down.
Drywall and sheetrock
One of the most common byproducts of any interior job, drywall is dusty, heavy, and breaks apart easily. We do not haul drywall. It belongs in a debris dumpster or with a licensed C&D hauler.
Lumber and clean wood
From old 2x4s to the offcuts from a new build, wood scraps pile up fast. A load of clean wood only is one we can take. Wood mixed in with other demolition debris goes to a C&D hauler or a dumpster.
Carpet and flooring
Removing old flooring is hard work. We haul away rolled-up carpet and padding. A small load of tile only or hardwood flooring only is fine. Mixed flooring debris from a tear-out goes to a C&D hauler or a dumpster.
Cabinets and fixtures
Kitchen and bathroom remodels turn up plenty of items we take: old cabinets, vanities, toilets, sinks, tubs and other fixtures. Clearing them out makes room for your new installations.
Packaging and cardboard
New windows, doors, and appliances come with a mountain of cardboard, styrofoam, and plastic wrapping. On a home project we can take that along with the rest of your load.
Mixed demolition debris and roofing
Insulation, concrete chunks mixed with other rubble, roof tear-off from a house and general demolition debris are not something we take. Roofing tear-off goes to a roofing contractor or a C&D hauler. Roofing that comes off a small structure we remove, such as a shed, pergola, carport or awning, is fine, and a load of metal roofing only counts as a single-material load.
Why a Debris Plan Matters More Than Most People Realize
A clear site is more than a matter of appearance; it’s part of a well-run project. Knowing early who hauls what, whether that is a dumpster, a C&D hauler, or Take Care Junk for the items we take, keeps a project organized and on schedule.
Safer work zones for crews
Cluttered sites are dangerous sites. Piles of debris, stray nails, and sharp-edged materials create trip-and-fall hazards. A clean work zone is a safer work zone, reducing the risk of injuries that can lead to costly delays and workers’ comp claims. Line up a dumpster or a C&D hauler before debris starts piling up.
More usable space on-site
Space is a premium on any job site. When debris piles up, it takes over staging areas, blocks access points, and forces your crew to work in cramped conditions. Regular post-construction cleanup frees up valuable real estate for material storage and equipment operation.
Reduced liability risks
Debris left on curbs or in driveways can create liability issues with neighbors, clients, or city inspectors. Keeping the site contained and clear prevents complaints and potential fines, protecting your company’s reputation.
Stronger impression with clients and inspectors
A tidy, organized job site sends a powerful message to your clients. It shows professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for their property. It also makes a positive impression on building inspectors, who are more likely to see a well-managed project.
Keeps the schedule intact
Ultimately, every benefit of a clean site ties back to your schedule. A safe, organized site with happy clients is a project that runs smoothly. By removing the debris bottleneck, you ensure that every trade can work efficiently, keeping your project on track and on budget.
Same-Day Pickups and Scheduling
Projects rarely run on a predictable schedule. An appliance delivery can leave you with the old units and a mountain of packaging you need gone now. For the items we take, we offer flexible scheduling, and homeowners who need same-day junk removal can often get a crew out quickly.
On-demand pickups for the items we take
Old cabinets stacked in the garage? A pile of scrap metal by the side gate? We offer same-day pickup when the schedule allows. Call us, and we’ll get a crew out to you as quickly as possible.
Booking ahead of a project
If you know the start date of your remodel, book the pre-renovation cleanout in advance. That way the room is cleared before your contractor arrives.
What we don’t offer: recurring job-site pickups
We don’t set up recurring debris pickups on active construction projects. For a long-running build, a debris dumpster that is swapped out as it fills, or a licensed C&D hauler, is the right setup.
Flexible timing that works for you
We work with you to find the best time for pickup. Need us there first thing in the morning before your contractor arrives? Or at the end of the day? We’ll find a time slot that works.
Safe Hauling and Responsible Disposal
Hiring an uninsured hauler is a risk that can cost you dearly. Whoever hauls your debris, whether that is us or a C&D hauler, check that they are licensed and insured.
Proper loading and transport
Our crews are trained to load heavy and awkward materials safely and securely. We ensure our trucks are properly covered to prevent debris from flying out on the road, protecting other drivers and following transport regulations.
Licensed and insured team
Take Care Junk is a fully licensed and insured company. We carry the necessary insurance to protect our workers, your property, and your business while we are on your site. You can hire us with confidence, knowing you are covered.
Recycling what we can
We donate what’s usable and recycle what we can. A metal-only load goes to a metal recycler, and we take each load to the right facility. We don’t sort mixed debris for recycling.
Responsible disposal practices
Every load we haul goes to a licensed facility. We do not provide C&D or CALGreen compliance paperwork. If your project needs diversion documentation, ask a licensed C&D hauler for it.
Which Projects We Can Help With
Here is how we fit into common building and renovation projects, and where a C&D hauler or a dumpster takes over.
Home renovations
We clear furniture and household items out of the house before a renovation starts, and afterward we take the old appliances, cabinets and fixtures. Homeowners managing remodels can also review our complete residential junk removal services page for interior cleanouts and bulky item removal. The mixed remodel debris in between goes to a dumpster or a C&D hauler.
Kitchen and bathroom remodels
These projects turn up old cabinets, vanities, toilets, sinks, tubs and appliances, all of which we take. Drywall and mixed tear-out debris go in a debris dumpster; a small tile-only load we can take.
Roofing projects
Tearing off an old roof creates a massive amount of heavy waste. We don’t do roof tear-offs on houses or haul that debris; a roofing contractor or a C&D hauler handles it.
Tenant improvement builds
In the commercial space, tenant improvements and office build-outs need to happen fast to get the business open. We can clear out the furniture, shelving and fixtures before the build-out starts. The build-out debris itself is not something we take; a licensed C&D hauler handles that.
Sheds, decks, fences and hot tubs
Whether you’re replacing a fence or taking out an old deck, shed, hot tub or playset, we can tear it down and haul it away. Those are regular services for us.
Concrete and rubble
For a broken-up patio or driveway, a load that is concrete only is a single-material load, so call us first. Rubble mixed with dirt, drywall or other demolition debris goes to a C&D hauler.

Construction Debris FAQs
How quickly can you pick up?
Often the same day or the next day for the items we take, depending on the schedule. Call us and we’ll tell you what we have open.
What materials can you haul from a job site?
We can haul most non-hazardous household materials. Mixed construction and demolition debris and house roof tear-off are not something we take; single-material loads such as metal, concrete, brick, clean wood or tile, in limited amounts, are worth a call. If you have a question about a specific material, just ask.
Do you offer recurring debris pickup for active projects?
No. We don’t do recurring debris pickups on active construction projects. A debris dumpster or a licensed C&D hauler is the right fit for that.
Can you handle large-volume debris?
It depends on what it is. A large single-material load, such as metal only or concrete only, is worth a call. Large demolition projects, full-home gut renovations and new construction sites produce mixed debris, which needs a C&D hauler or roll-off dumpsters.
How does pricing work for the loads you take?
For the loads we take, the cost is based on volume, basically how much space the load takes up in our truck. We provide a clear, all-inclusive quote upfront, so there are no surprises.
Do I need to be present during pickup?
No. As long as our crew has clear access and we know exactly what needs to go, you do not need to be present. We can handle the job and send a confirmation with photos when we’re done.
