Fall & Winter Junk Removal in Sacramento

Fall and winter bring their own kind of junk: yard debris by the truckload, garages that need clearing before the rain, furniture on its way out before the holidays, and the old TVs and appliances that the new ones replaced. Here is what we haul each part of the season, what the City of Sacramento’s own programs cover in these months, and where a private hauler fills in.

Fall leaf & yard cleanup
Sacramento’s tree canopy drops leaves every October through December. We load leaves, branches, trimmings and the rest of the yard debris and haul it away — no street pile needed.

October – November
Garage, attic & shed cleanouts before the rains
Sacramento’s rainy winters bring water intrusion, mildew and ruined boxes to anything sitting on the garage floor. Clear it out while it’s still dry.
November – December
Holiday declutter, estate & move-out cleanouts
Old sofas and mattresses out before guests arrive, or a whole house cleared before a year-end move or sale.
December
Year-end office & commercial cleanouts
Desks, cubicles, old equipment and storage rooms cleared out before the new year.

Late December – January
Post-holiday TVs, electronics & appliances
The new TV, fridge or washer arrived — now the old one needs to go. We haul it out of the house and take it for recycling.
Storm debris and holiday trees
When winter storms bring down branches or break a fence, we haul storm debris away — branches and limbs that are already down, broken fencing, and soaked yard debris. Holiday trees have their own city rules, which we explain on our yard waste removal page; ask us about hauling yours.
What the City of Sacramento does in fall and winter — and when a private hauler helps
The City of Sacramento runs good seasonal programs for its residential collection customers. They come with limits on who qualifies, when, and how much, and they don’t apply in other cities or unincorporated county areas. Here is what the City publishes, so you can decide which option fits.
Leaf Season: November through January
City residential yard waste customers can pile excess yard waste in the street for collection by the claw from November through January. The City says the 2026 Leaf Season begins November 2, 2026.
- Only for customers on a public street with a curb and gutter. Private streets, apartment buildings of five or more units, and commercial properties do not receive the service.
- Piles can be no larger than five cubic yards, limbs no longer than 3 feet or thicker than 4 inches, and nothing in plastic bags.
When a hauler helps: your property doesn’t get Leaf Season service, the load is bigger than a street pile allows, or you want it gone from the yard now instead of waiting for the claw.

Free household junk pickup: February through October
City residential customers get two free household junk pickup appointments a year, and they can only be scheduled between February and October. New appointments stop being accepted in mid-to-late October, because the same crews work Leaf Season, which takes priority in November, December and January. The City says fee-based pickups may be available in those months through its Utility Billing department.
- Appliances and e-waste need a separate City appointment.
- Tenants of multi-family buildings with five or more units that aren’t served by the City are told to arrange junk pickup through their landlord, property manager or a commercial hauler.
When a hauler helps: you need furniture, appliances and junk gone together in one trip during the holidays, you’ve already used your free appointments, or your building isn’t on City service.
Holiday trees
City residential customers who receive Leaf Season service can put their tree in the street pile, cleaned of lights, tinsel, stands, nails and decorations. Businesses and residents in apartments, on private streets or in gated communities are not covered by on-street collection; the City directs them to its free drop-off events or another legal disposal method, and says leaving a tree on City streets without the service counts as illegal dumping.
When a hauler helps: you can’t use on-street pickup and can’t get to a drop-off event. Ask us about hauling your tree.
