Shed Removal in Sacramento

Shed removal in Sacramento: we tear down and haul away wood sheds, metal sheds and backyard structures, slab and debris included. Call (916) 770-7619.

Overview

The shed came with the house. The roof has leaked since the second winter, the door no longer closes, and something has been living under the floor. Inside: a mower that does not run and a decade of paint cans. Taking it down yourself is a weekend, a dumpster and a tetanus shot.

We take sheds apart panel by panel, haul every board, screw and shingle, and leave bare dirt or a clean slab. Small sheds start at $250, a typical one is about seven labor hours, and most are gone the day we arrive. The price is confirmed before the first screw comes out.

At a glance

  • Upfront pricing from $250, confirmed before we start
  • Same-day and next-day appointments, open 24 hours a day
  • Full service: we lift, load, haul and sweep up
  • Licensed and insured, locally owned in West Sacramento
  • We donate what is usable and recycle what we can
  • No tips expected and no hidden dump fees

Types of Sheds We Remove

Four kinds of shed, and each one comes apart differently.

  1. 01

    Wood Sheds

Most backyard sheds: framed walls, plywood floor, shingled roof. Termites and dry rot have usually started by the time we are called. We pull the roofing first, then the sheathing and rafters, then the walls from the top down, so nothing lands on the fence or the neighbor’s side.

  2. 02

    Metal Sheds

Bolt-together kits come apart with a drill and a pry bar and are the fastest job on this page. The panels go to a scrap recycler instead of the landfill.

  3. 03

    Plastic & Resin Sheds

Light, but brittle after ten Sacramento summers. The panels crack rather than unsnap, so we cut them into stackable pieces and load them flat.

  4. 04

    Custom-Built & Large Sheds

Workshops, barn-style buildings and sheds on a slab. One customer’s 16 by 13 foot shed came down and left in a single day. Larger buildings are often wired for power; have an electrician disconnect it first.

Our Sacramento Shed Demolition Process

The same six steps on every shed. The order matters, because a shed that is pushed over is a shed that lands on something.

01

  1. 01

    On-Site Assessment & Free Estimate

Photos are enough for most sheds. We check size, material, what is inside, what it sits on and how far the truck can get, then text one number that covers teardown, hauling and cleanup. Upfront pricing, no dump fee added later.

  2. 02

    Safe Disassembly

Doors and windows come out first, so there is no glass in the pile. Then we unscrew or cut the roofing and strip the shingles.

  3. 03

    Structural Breakdown

Roof sheathing and rafters, then the wall panels from the top down, then the floor and whatever it sits on: skids, blocks or gravel.

  4. 04

    Debris Removal & Hauling

Everything goes in the truck the same day: lumber, siding, shingles, hardware, and the contents if you asked us to clear them.

  5. 05

    Responsible Disposal & Recycling

Metal panels and hardware go to a scrap recycler. Clean wood is separated when the load allows. Treated lumber and shingles go to the transfer station.

  6. 06

    Site Cleanup

We rake the footprint, pick up stray nails and screws, and leave a flat patch ready for a new shed, a patio or lawn.

Do You Need a Permit for Shed Removal in Sacramento?

Usually not. Small detached sheds in Sacramento generally come down without a permit. The exceptions:

  • It is attached to your house
  • It has electrical, water or gas connections
  • It sits on a permanent concrete foundation
  • It is larger than the city’s size limit

In those cases, check with the City of Sacramento or the county building department before the job.

We do not arrange permits. If one is needed, get it from the city or county building department before demolition begins. If you are unsure, send photos and we will tell you what we see.

How Much Does Shed Removal Cost in Sacramento?

Five things set the number:

  • Size: an 8 by 10 tool shed or a 12 by 20 barn-style building
  • Material: a bolt-together metal kit comes apart faster than a framed wood shed with a shingled roof
  • The base: blocks and skids come with us; a poured slab is a separate quote
  • Access: a shed behind a locked gate or down a narrow side yard means a longer carry
  • What is inside: an empty shed is cheaper than one packed to the roof

Typical shed removal pricing in Sacramento:

Small sheds

$250 – $500: a tool shed on blocks or skids

Medium sheds

$500 – $900: a framed wood shed with a shingled roof

Large or slab-based sheds

$900+: a workshop, a barn-style building, or anything on a slab

The number we text is the number you pay. No dump fee added later, no tip expected, and $20 off if you book online.

Shed removal is not one flat rate because no two sheds are the same. An 8 by 10 tool shed on blocks is the quick end. A 12 by 20 barn-style building with a shingled roof and a plywood floor is most of a day. Send a few photos, including the gate and the path to the street, and we send back one firm number that covers demolition, hauling and cleanup.

Concrete Pads and Foundations

Most sheds sit on blocks, wood skids or gravel. We take the shed, its floor and the blocks or skids as part of the job. If yours sits on a poured concrete pad, we take the shed off it and leave the pad unless you ask: breaking out a slab is a separate job, priced by its size, and most people keep the slab for a new shed, a patio or a hot tub base.

Why DIY Shed Removal Can Be Risky

People do take sheds down themselves. The ones who call us halfway through usually hit one of these:

  • The roof comes down before the walls, with someone under it
  • Rusted nails and sheet-metal edges, and no gloves thick enough
  • Black mold on the underside of the roof sheathing
  • A wire from the house panel that somebody forgot was live
  • A pile of lumber and shingles that the trash service will not take
  • A slab nobody planned for

We bring the tools, the truck and the people, and we know which wall is holding the roof up.

Eco-Friendly Shed Disposal

Most of a wood shed is landfill. We pull out what is not.

On every shed job we:

  • Send metal panels, roofing and hardware to a scrap metal recycler
  • Separate clean, untreated lumber when the load allows
  • Keep treated wood and shingles out of the green-waste stream and send them to the transfer station
  • Drop working tools and garden gear at a charity such as the Habitat for Humanity ReStore when you ask us to

What we cannot take is anything in a can: paint, fuel, pesticides and pool chemicals. The county takes those free.

Shed Removal for Homeowners, Realtors & Property Managers

A shed that leans is the first thing a buyer or an inspector notices. We work with:

  • Homeowners replacing a rotten shed with a new one, a patio or lawn
  • Realtors who need the back yard to photograph well before listing
  • Landlords clearing a tenant’s shed and everything stacked inside it
  • Property managers handling turnovers with a hard date

Before the Crew Arrives

Three things make a shed job go faster.

  • Empty it, or tell us not to. We can clear the contents and haul them with the shed; say so when you book so the quote covers it. Working tools and garden gear can go to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Paint, fuel and chemicals stay with you: what we don’t take lists them.
  • Disconnect the utilities. Workshops and she-sheds are often wired for power, sometimes plumbed, occasionally on gas. A licensed electrician disconnects and caps the wiring at your panel, and water and gas lines are shut off and capped before we arrive. We do not do that work.
  • Decide about the slab. It can stay and become a patio or a hot tub base, or we quote its removal separately.

Doing it yourself? How to remove an old shed safely walks through each material in the order we use: doors and windows, roofing, sheathing and rafters, walls from the top down, then the floor. Pushing it over only works for a small metal or plastic shed with nothing nearby. Related: hot tub removal, deck removal and construction debris.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shed removal take?

About seven labor hours for a typical shed, teardown to sweep-up, so most are gone the day we arrive. Sheds on blocks go with the blocks. Breaking out a concrete slab is a separate job, and most people keep the slab.

Do I need to empty the shed first?

No. We can clear the contents and haul them with the shed. Tell us when you book so the quote covers it. Liquid paint, fuel and chemicals stay with you; Sacramento County takes them free at its hazardous waste drop-off.

Do you remove sheds on concrete slabs?

Yes. We take the shed off the slab as part of the job. Breaking out the slab is quoted separately by size, and most people keep it for a new shed or a patio.

Can you remove a shed from a tight backyard?

Yes. A narrow side yard or a locked gate just means a longer carry, and we quote that up front. Panels and lumber come out a piece at a time, so nothing has to fit through the gate whole.

What happens to the debris?

Metal to a scrap recycler, clean lumber separated when the load allows, treated wood and shingles to the transfer station. Nothing is left in your yard.
