A hot tub is not a normal junk removal job. It weighs 500 to 900 pounds empty, it is hardwired into a 240-volt circuit, and it is almost always sitting in a fenced backyard with a gate narrower than the tub. That is why most people give up on doing it themselves. We remove hot tubs, spas, and jacuzzis across the Sacramento region — including the demolition, the haul-away, and the cleanup afterwards.

What Hot Tub Removal Costs in Sacramento

Hot tub and spa removal in the Sacramento area typically runs $300 to $600+. Three things move the number:

• Size. A two-person spa is a very different job from an eight-person tub or a swim spa.
• Access. A tub beside an open driveway is straightforward. One behind a 36-inch side gate, up a flight of deck stairs, or in a yard reachable only through the house takes longer and needs more cutting.
• What else goes. Surrounding decking, a rotted gazebo, or the tub cover and steps can usually go on the same trip.

Spa, Jacuzzi, Swim Spa — Same Job, Different Names

"Spa removal" and "hot tub removal" describe the same work, and Jacuzzi is a brand name that became a generic term. Whichever you call it, the process is identical: disconnect, drain, cut down, haul out. We handle all of them, including inflatable spas, above-ground portable tubs, hard-shell acrylic spas, swim spas, and built-in units set into a deck or concrete surround.

Built-in and swim-spa jobs take longer because the shell has to be cut free of the surround rather than lifted out — worth mentioning when you call so we can quote it accurately the first time.

How the Removal Works

A typical hot tub removal is a two-to-four-hour job for a crew. Here is the sequence, and the one part that is not ours:

• 1. The electrical comes first — and it needs a licensed electrician. Every hot tub is hardwired into a dedicated 220–240 volt circuit with its own breaker and usually a GFCI disconnect box within sight of the tub. We do not perform electrical work. That circuit has to be properly disconnected by a licensed electrician before anyone touches the tub with a saw or pry bar. Schedule that before your removal date. A permit is generally not required for a simple disconnection, but check with Sacramento County Building Permits if you are unsure.
• 2. Drain it. The tub needs to be fully drained ahead of the appointment — a garden hose on the drain valve usually does it overnight. A full tub holds hundreds of gallons and cannot be moved.
• 3. We cut it down. The shell, cabinet, frame, and insulation are cut into sections small enough to carry through your gate or side yard. This is what makes it possible to get a tub out of a fully fenced backyard without touching the fence.
• 4. We carry it out and load it. Our insured crew does all the lifting. You do not need to move anything or help carry.
• 5. We clean up and sort for recycling. We sweep the area and separate the metal frame, motor, and pump components for recycling rather than sending the whole unit to landfill.

What Happens to the Old Tub

A hot tub is mostly acrylic shell, wood or composite cabinet, steel or aluminum frame, foam insulation, and a motor and pump assembly with a useful amount of metal in it. The metal components are separated for recycling, and cabinet and framing material is diverted where it can be. Foam insulation and the acrylic shell are the parts that generally cannot be recycled locally, so we are straightforward about that rather than claiming the whole unit gets diverted.

The Concrete Pad, Decking, and What Is Left Behind

Most tubs sit on a concrete pad, a reinforced deck section, or pavers. Removing the tub leaves that behind, and people are often surprised by it. We can take surrounding decking, the steps, the cover and cover lifter, and any gazebo or privacy screen on the same visit. Breaking out and hauling a concrete pad is a separate scope with its own weight considerations — tell us on the call if you want the pad gone too and we will price it properly instead of surprising you on the day.
