What We Don't Take (And Where to Take It Instead)

This trips up a lot of callers. These items have special handling rules, and we handle them.

• Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. The refrigerant is regulated under EPA Section 608 and is recovered by a certified technician before the unit is scrapped. We route appliances through processors that do exactly that.
• Televisions, monitors and computers, a few at a time alongside a regular pickup. E-waste cannot go in a California landfill; we take it to a permitted recycler.
• Mattresses and box springs, which most transfer stations surcharge and many haulers refuse.
• Tires, in limited quantities. Call and tell us how many.
• Fully dried latex paint. Solid all the way through, it is no longer liquid hazardous waste. Wet paint is a no.

Commercial jobs run into limits that household pickups rarely do. These are our own scope limits, on top of the regulated list, and we would rather say so now than decline at the door.

• Mixed construction and demolition debris, including drywall and tenant-improvement tear-outs. A mixed pile has to be sorted and we are not a sorting facility; it goes to a C&D hauler or a roll-off dumpster. A single-material load (metal, concrete, brick, clean wood or tile, in limited amounts) we will look at; see construction debris: what we take.
• Roof tear-off from a house: shingles, tar paper and sheathing. Weight and volume put it with your roofing contractor or a roll-off. Roofing on a small shed, pergola, carport or awning we remove is fine.
• Dirt, sod, rock and other heavy fill. Past a small amount it exceeds the truck's weight limit. Kiefer Landfill weighs your truck and charges by the ton, or we take a concrete-only load priced by weight.
• Food waste, grease and other organics. They belong in your property's own organics collection, not a junk truck.
• A whole office's or store's worth of electronics. A few pieces alongside a regular load are fine. For a full IT refresh, use a recycler from CalRecycle's electronic waste program.
• Your regular garbage, recycling and organics service. We do one-off cleanouts, not weekly collection. In the City of Sacramento that service comes from a franchised hauler; see the City's commercial collection page.

Everything else a business clears (furniture, shelving, fixtures, filing cabinets, pallets, old stock) is what we do every day. See commercial junk removal.

A few more categories come up often enough to spell out, one line each.

• Vehicles and major vehicle parts: cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, campers, engines, transmissions. Title and fluids make them a licensed auto dismantler's or scrap yard's job, not ours.
• Pure fuels: gasoline, diesel, kerosene and lighter fluid, including partly full cans. They go to household hazardous waste with the chemicals above.
• Loose, uncontained or unsanitary waste: trash blowing around a lot, rotting food, anything contaminated with animal or human waste. It has to be bagged, or handled by a specialized crew, before we can load the rest.
• Medical waste and sharps. Never accepted on a load; use a pharmacy or county take-back.
• Large volumes of dirt, rock and broken concrete. Only as a single-material load priced by weight, as our construction debris page explains.
