Hoarding Help in Sacramento: Who to Call, and for What

Sacramento has no single hoarding hotline, and we could not find a local hoarding task force. Help comes from several agencies, each with a narrow job. This page sorts them by the problem you are trying to solve. Numbers were checked against each agency’s own website in October 2026; call ahead, since hours change. This guide is part of our Sacramento hoarder cleanout series.

Mental Health Help

• Sacramento County Behavioral Health screening line: (916) 875-1055. The county says the line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is the starting point for county mental health services. County contact page.
• 988. Call or text for an urgent mental health crisis or thoughts of suicide.
• Mental Health Urgent Care Clinic: (916) 520-2460. 2130 Stockton Boulevard, Building 300, Sacramento. Walk-in, no appointment needed.
• NAMI Sacramento helpline: (916) 890-5467. Weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It runs family support groups; none is specific to hoarding. namisacramento.org.
• International OCD Foundation directory. Search for therapists and support groups that treat hoarding disorder, including online ones. hoarding.iocdf.org/find-help.

An Older or Dependent Adult at Risk

• Adult Protective Services: (916) 874-9377. Reports are taken 24 hours a day. APS serves county residents 60 and older and dependent adults 18 to 59, and its definition of neglect includes self-neglect. An adult can refuse its services. APS page.
• Agency on Aging Area 4: (916) 486-1876. Information and referrals for seniors: meals, caregiver support, legal help. agencyonaging4.org.
• Child Protective Services: (916) 875-KIDS if children live in the home.

Not Sure Where to Start

• 211 Sacramento. Dial 2-1-1 or (916) 498-1000, any hour, for referrals to health and human service programs. 211sacramento.org.

Code Enforcement and Fire

Sacramento County Code Enforcement publishes a short page on dealing with hoarders. It explains that officers and police cannot enter a home unless there is clear danger, and it points families to APS for a senior. To report a property, call 311 in the City of Sacramento, or 3-1-1 or (916) 875-4311 in the unincorporated county. For fire safety questions, the Sacramento Fire Department’s business line is (916) 808-1300 and Sacramento Metro Fire’s is (916) 859-4300. In an emergency, call 911.

Animals

• City of Sacramento: call 311 or (916) 808-7387 (Front Street Animal Shelter).
• Unincorporated county: report animal welfare concerns through 311 or (916) 875-4311 (Bradshaw Animal Shelter, (916) 368-7387).

Disposal of Things a Hauler Can’t Take

• Household hazardous waste, county: North Area Recovery Station, 4450 Roseville Road, North Highlands. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free for residents up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a month. Takes paint, chemicals, propane, sealed sharps containers and non-controlled medications. County NARS page.
• Household hazardous waste, city: Sacramento Recycling & Transfer Station, 8491 Fruitridge Road. Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It takes sharps but not medications.
• Medications: pharmacy drop boxes listed at med-project.org.

Help With Repairs for Low-Income Homeowners

We did not find a county program that pays for hoarding cleanup. Two nonprofits help low-income owner-occupants with safety repairs once a home is clear enough to work in: Rebuilding Together Sacramento, (916) 455-1880, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s home repair program, (916) 440-1215. Each has income limits; ask what they cover.
